AITA for reporting a girl for hit and run after she hit my car and fled?

Imagine coming out to your car and discovering someone had hit it—and then drove off without leaving a note or taking any responsibility. That’s exactly what happened to me recently. I’m 27, and I park on the street outside my building.

A few days ago, I checked my dashcam after thinking I’d seen someone near my car. The footage revealed a 20-year-old girl from across the street attempting to parallel park and hitting my rear fender hard enough to move my car slightly.

When I confronted her, she downplayed the incident, insisted it wasn’t a big deal, and refused to pay for anything beyond paint or polishing. I knew there could be hidden damage and wanted to take proper action. With the help of a friend who’s a cop, I filed a police report and informed my insurance.

Now, the situation has escalated, and opinions are divided. Was I right to report her, or did I overreact?
